The Story: Why This Project Mattered
We recently headed out to Waxahachie to install half-round gutters for a Texas French Country estate in Ellis County — the kind of custom home where the details matter and every exterior element has been considered deliberately.
This home had it all working together: variegated red brick, white stucco accent panels, black shutters with wrought-iron hardware, arched windows, a decorative chimney, and carriage-style garage doors. What it needed was a gutter system that could keep up with the rest of the design — something that looked intentional, not industrial.
Ellis County doesn’t do storms halfway. When a gully washer rolls through Waxahachie, the volume of water a roofline like this sheds can overwhelm an undersized or poorly matched gutter system fast. On a home this custom, the solution had to perform and look the part.
The Challenge
The primary goal was straightforward: full-perimeter drainage protection to keep runoff away from the foundation and landscaping — the stone-edged beds and rock discharge areas this homeowner had invested in carefully.
But we also had to work around the home’s architectural character. Standard K-style gutters would have looked out of place against the curved details, arched windows, and European-influenced trim work on this house. The gutter profile itself needed to match the home’s sensibility.
The hip rooflines also created multiple valleys and transitions, requiring precise corner miters and careful downspout placement to handle drainage from several converging roof planes without creating overflow points.

We fabricated and installed 6-inch seamless half-round gutters in Musket Brown with matching round downspouts across the full perimeter of this Waxahachie estate.
Why 6-inch half-round?
The half-round profile is the natural fit for a French Country home — it reads as architectural rather than utilitarian, echoing the curved details already present in the arched windows and decorative chimney cap. We went with 6-inch because the hip rooflines on this home shed a significant volume of water across multiple planes. A 5-inch system would have been undersized for what Ellis County storms actually throw at a roofline like this.
Why Musket Brown?
The home’s exterior already had a carefully coordinated palette — warm brick, cream fascia, dark shutters, and dark roof shingles. Musket Brown threads that needle perfectly: it’s dark enough to complement the roofline and shutters without competing with them, and warm enough not to fight the brick. White or aluminum gutters would have broken the visual continuity. Musket Brown disappears into the design the way good trim work should.
The Detail Work:
Downspouts were positioned at all corners and key mid-runs to manage the load from the converging hip roof planes. Rock splash beds at discharge points were already in place — a sign this homeowner understood drainage — and we positioned the downspout outlets to work with them rather than around them. Corner miters were cut clean throughout to maintain the refined look the home demands.
